Cassoulet is a post-workout dream. Absurd amounts of protein. This restaurant leans towards country-French with American sized entrees. This is not a "metropolitáin" place. Think more at home in a river valley than Paris. Almost everything tastes great. Some are absolutely outstanding and punch extremely well above their weight. If dishes are not outstanding they're usually at least just good food. Haven't really had anything under 3.5 stars. A very reliable 4-4.5-5 spot with as mentioned absolute gems when the chef and staff are is on their game and everything goes right. Place has been here since 1997 and I come here every time now before I leave for military service. I remember it since as a kid and am able to eat here now with my adult parents. Maybe a future wife too. It's an institution. Drama aside, It's quite frankly (no pun intended) where I want my last meal to be from before going off. Great town too.

Well this was just splendid across the board It's truly delicious French food, and of our 3 appetizers and 2 entrees there were truly no whammies. Definitely my favorite orange duck I've had in a long while. Everything was made to perfection! Oh and the apple strudel was delicious as a dessert, one of the best I've had in a while. The wait staff were also extremely on top of their game. They kept waters topped off, checked in on us without being overbearing, etc. The only "4 star" bit is that the place is a smidge run down, even for a casual French restaurant. No major issues with the front room, but the back room (where half of the seats are) have a big look into the prep area, and there's a big desk with receipts strewn about and some guy running numbers in his shorts. I think just a simple curtain or privacy fold up wall would do wonders? So yeah, delicious food, great staff, stick to the front room and you'll be set. We're excited to go back!

Latour is one of the last true French restaurants in the northern half of NJ. (true not fusion). Also the oldest high-end restaurant in Ridgewood NJ, which is a serious claim to fame in a zip code that has seen its share of high-end restaurants. It is BYOB. It's located at the end of Ridgewood Ave near the train station where there is plenty of public parking. (Although on a Saturday night you may still need to walk a block or two.) Atmosphere is a cute, quaint, French bistro. Nothing too fancy but cozy. Very "authentique". Service is excellent. We had an enjoyable evening conversing with our waiter DominiK, who knew the menu in & out. Prices are a bit high, but less than expected. The high quality ingredients & preparation of the food were well worth the check. I"ve spent far more at places for far less ( haven't we all?) We also got to meet Chef Michael Latour who is one of the nicest, most down to earth chefs I have ever met ( or worked with). I'm so glad we were a party of 4 that likes to share as I had seen A LOT on the menu that sounded delicious. Well, it wasn't wrong. THE FOOD was AMAZING. APPS-- I had Lump Crabmeat Strudel in a Lobster Sauce Nantua which between the crunch of the strudel, the freshness of the seafood and the delicate but flavorful sauce was just a perfect appetizer. However we also tried a Special of seafood in a crepe with sauce that was also sooo good. The Fallen French Cheese Soufflé in a Red wine reduction with seasonal berry compote, toasted pecans and truffle honey was OO-La-La simple farm foods but 5th Ave decadent. De-Lish! ENTREES-- -- Coq au Vin ( dark meat chicken) with Bacon lardon, mushroom ragoût, pearl onion, and mashed potato was a great example of a classic French dish. --Cassoulet ( a Special) is my favorite French dish, so I can be very critical. I highly recommend you read the history of the dish. This version was very good. SO deep in flavors from its long cooking process. I thought it had a little too many beans though. --Filet of Beef Wellington Napolean: layered puff pastry, wild mushroom duxelle, paté de foie gras, and a veal demi glacé. is a classic dish. Done here a little differently. It was layered, not enclosed within itself. Different but all the expected flavors were there. DESSERT!-- How can you not have dessert at a place like Latour? The special of house made pistachio gelato on sponge cake with a superb chocolate sauce was just the very best way to end this meal ( for two of us) I can still taste it. Other desserts that were heartily enjoyed were the Chocolate Mousse Cake and the Bavarian Apple Strudel. Just awesome! I cannot wait to go back and try more items. So grab the wine and go! Do NOT be intimidated. Do NOT wait for a special occasion. IF you're a true Foodie.and love the whole dining out scene ( Atmosphere, Service, Food).... then GO!

Dominic provided us with such excellent service and definitely enhanced our overall dining experience! The ambiance of the restaurant is very cute and welcoming, with various art pieces and designs spread throughout. We both opted for the prefix, which was a four course meal for 55 dollars, a definite steal if you ask me! We got the escargot and lump crab appetizer, without our favorite definitely being the escargot! The French onion soup was also incredibly rich and paired beautifully with the cheese that balanced out the onions' richness. The short rib entree was actually our least favorite due to it being overly tough and on the blander side of things, so I definitely recommend staying away from the short ribs. The chicken dish tasted better and complimented the sides of veggies and mash perfectly. Our desserts were also quite delicious, with the crème brûlée tasting amazing; we just wish the torched sugar exterior wasn't as thick as it was. Overall we had a wonderful experience and will definitely come back to try their many other menu items! Thank you Dominic for the awesome service! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:
